Research Institute of Mechanical Technology, PNU
The past decade has been years of consolidation, focus and significant progress across a number of fronts for the Research Institute of Mechanical Technology (RIMT).

Since RIMT wasestablished as a legal institute attached to Pusan National University in 1978, the contributions of the institute in recent years have expanded up to new technologies via academic-industrial collaborations and customized education service for engineers from various fields, not to mention the fundamental researches in the field of mechanical engineering. The strength of the institute comes from the well-subdivided branches in mechanical engineering namely, Energy Engineering Division, Precision Engineering Division, Materials and Mechanical System Engineering Division, Control and Automation Engineering Division and Aeronautical Engineering Division. The current staff members consist of approximately 90 professors and 9 researchers over 17 laboratories.
A notable function of the institute is to re-educate engineers from industry through a strengthened field-oriented curriculum. For the purpose of producing work-related advanced technologyoriented human resources, the institute had initiated the M.S. degree program with LG-Electronics, Ltd., in 1995, under the name of Department of Intelligent Mechanical Systems Engineering and it has been expanded to a Ph.D. Program in 2001. Also, as an interdisciplinary program for re-educating the engineers from small and medium-sized companies, a M.S. degree program under the Department of Creative Engineering was launched in 2003. In the year of 2006, for the purpose of enhancing electrical power generation technology, the Department of Power Generation and Combustion through collaboration with Korea South-Eastern Power Co. and Korea Southern Power Co. were formulated. In the year of 2008, M.S. degree program under the Department of Mechanical and Material System was formulated through collaboration with The Small and Medium Business Administration of Pusan and Ulsan and Pusan Machinery Industry Cooperations. And a M.S. and Ph.D. degree program under the Department of High Pressure Cylinder System was launched by making an agreement with NK.Co.
RIMT had launched a task-force team for the purpose of strengthening the relationship with local strategic industrial enterprises in 2002 and, through this, total solutions to the problems are being pursued. In addition, for aiming globalization of the institute, RIMT has tried to establish many academic ties with an institute of renowned foreign universities.
Upon the emphasis on fundamental research in frontier sectors of Mechanical Engineering, we promise to do our best to achieve the RIMT Vision 2020 which contains a goal to stand as a global leading institute not mention as a specialized institute in mechanical engineering. Through the multidisciplinary group researches among the members, innovative technologies will be developed and transferred to the industries as well. Your heartful concerns and continuous supports toward RIMT throughout the coming years would be greatly appreciated.
